Carl was raised on a farm/ranch operation near Rigby, Idaho. The family also had a small dairy, and later, a feedlot. Robin was raised in Leadore, Idaho on the Shiner Ranch, which was a commercial cow operation. Carl and Robin were married in 1979 and started buying their own cows. They have ranched in the Lemhi valley since 1988.

In 1999 they moved to Little 8 Mile Ranch near Leadore, ID to manage that ranch. While they were there, Carl and Robin, in conjunction with Little 8 Mile Ranch, purchased the Leadore Angus herd from Roger Swanson. They had 12 sales while at Leadore. Carl managed the commercial and registered herds for Little 8 Mile Ranch for 16 years.

In 2013 Carl and Robin purchased the Swanson ranch at Price Creek near Salmon, ID. In 2016, they moved their herd to the ranch at Price Creek and had their first sale at the ranch in 2017.

Carl and Robin have been involved in the commercial business and have always run cattle at high elevation. This has gained them real experience with what it takes to make a living in the ranching industry.

They are privileged to be part owners in the SITZ Upward 307R pedigree, the SITZ Final Statement pedigree and KG Retail Value 8248.

 
Carl and Robin have 3 children: Dillon (Lacey), Maquel Fleming (Derick), and CJ (Kortni), and 7 grandchildren ranging in age from pre-k to 18-years old. Dillon, Maquel, and CJ are all in the ranching business. Their sons work for Shiner Ranch and Maquel and Derick ranch near Billings MT. They each also have a few registered cows and sell some bulls too.

Every 3rd Wednesday in March, Lufkin Cattle hosts its annual production sale - selling over 100 yearling bulls. The program is focused on breeding cattle with strong maternal traits, calving ease and practical range cattle with some capacity and volume.
